abstract = "Among the changes related to climate change, the effects on
agriculture and food supply prevent global food security.
According to FAO, nowadays more than 600 thousand inhabitants will
be undernourished by 2050 if nothing is done. Significant impacts
on food production are soil degradation and use of fertilizers
causing nitrogen accumulation, especially in Brazil where large
scale agriculture is meant for feeding, fuel and exports rather
than internal food supplies. Thus, evaluating the adequacy of food
nutrient supplies allow the understanding whether
micro/macronutrients deficiencies in the Brazilian population
require agricultural intensification or smarter food choices. The
objective of the study was to estimate the availability of macro
and micro nutrients by food groups according to FAO Food Balance
Sheets data to support parametrization of land use change
scenarios linked to food insecurity indicators in Brazil. In order
to retrieve the availability of nutrients per type of food
consumed in Brazil, we adopted FAO data consisted of the Food
Balance Sheets allowing the retrieval of total available food per
type, food consumption and food imports data. The nutrient
compositions of consumed food were obtained from food composition
reference tables (TACO and USDA). The results allow a temporal
dynamic evaluation of malnutrition and also the excesses or
deficiencies of micro and macro nutrients available to the
Brazilian population. Results are being processed and the outputs
shall be coupled to risk scenarios of malnutrition in Brazil
throughout the FEEDME model, which provides estimated parameters
prone to be used as agricultural land expansion/intensification
proxies and supporting land use/cover change scenarios.",
